History

Late Sardar Hari Singh Ruprah Sr. Advocate was born to Sardar Santa Singh Ruprah, a contractor of Village Dhamian Kalan of Distt. Hoshiarpur (The Punjab) on 25.10.1924. When he was a child aged 4 years, a renowned palmist and fortune teller visited his house and declared that the boy would not go to school and would remain uneducated. But history has it that he attained highest stage of academics in Law, History, Literature and Theology. Besides addressing the High Court in historical constitutional matters, Shri Ruprah was frequently called by various societies of all religions to deliver religious discourses. He could foretell future of others without looking at their palms, he remembered his previous births, if you looked at his face, you could not defy him; such was his hypnotic personality.

He married Mrs. Avtar Kaur, whom he knew from many of his previous births. Consequently, Mrs. Avtar became a part of his mission of life and dedicated her life to the cause of education and served as Principal without any salary for a period of two years in Cantt. Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Jabalpur. Later on, she took the school to greater heights with an exemplary administrative skill and dedication.

Sardar Hari Singh ji was also an educationist who established the first Sikh College of Jabalpur namely, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Jabalpur. He was also the driving spirit in the establishment of Sikh Education Society and Cantt. Khalsa School, Jabalpur in 1969.

After Sardar Hari Singh ji passed for his heavenly abode on 17.12.2011, Mrs. Avtar Ruprah, an old lady of 79 declared on 26.01.2012, “मैं अपने पति स्व. सरदार हरी सिंह रूपराह के सपनों को साकार करने के लिए कृत संकल्प हूँ.”

Then under the President-ship of Mrs. Avtar Kaur Ruprah, this College has been established in the name of Late Sardar Hari Singh ji. This society (Sikh Education Society) is called the Foundation Society of the College. The society has already shown its performance by providing excellent school education through English and Hindi medium by running Cantt. Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Sadar Jabalpur which has completed 50 years now.
